Sending money overseas

Electronic Funds Transfer

The quickest and most secure way of sending money overseas.

Key features

  • Payments can be made in a wide number of currencies
  • Funds can be electronically transferred to most bank accounts across the world
  • Funds will arrive in the overseas country in three to five working days*
  • No maximum transfer balance.
* Credit to the beneficiary account is subject to local banking practices and time zone differences.

How to send funds electronically

To make sure funds are received as quickly as possible you will need the following information:

  • The recipient's Bank Identifier Code (BIC). This is a code by which the beneficiary bank is identified throughout the world
  • The recipient's International Bank Account Number (IBAN). This is a code by which your sort code and jar number are recognisable throughout the world.

Foreign Drafts

Foreign Drafts are cheques payable in the local currency and can be paid into bank accounts abroad in the same way as any other local cheque.

Key features

  • Available in a wide number of currencies
  • Maximum amount is the equivalent of £5,000 sterling
  • The foreign draft will be sent to your home address by first class post.

Receiving money from overseas

Electronic Funds Transfer

The quickest and most secure method of receiving currency and sterling payments abroad through electronic links between banks.

How to receive funds electronically

To make sure funds are received as quickly as possible, ask the sender to instruct their bank to make the payment payable to the name your jar is held in with Intelligent Finance. They will need the following information:

  • Beneficiary's full name
  • Full bank name and address: Intelligent Finance, 1 Baird Road, Kirkton Campus, Livingston, EH54 7AZ
  • Sort code and jar number that the payment is to be applied to.

Foreign Cheques

Cheques in foreign currency can be deposited into your Intelligent Finance plan.

Key features

Pay in:

  • Pension payments from abroad
  • Salary cheques from overseas earnings
  • Gifts from abroad
  • Sale of foreign shareholdings.

How to pay a foreign cheque into your jar

Ensure the cheque:

  • Is made payable to Intelligent Finance and your full name
  • Is written in the currency of the country in which it is payable
  • Has your jar number and name written on the back.
